Why is this important?
Passport validation checks are an important tool in establishing a person’s identity. Verifile checks the code on the machine-readable zone (MRZ), as per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standardisation, cross-check against a database of lost, stolen and compromised passports, and undertake a visual authenticity scan.
Financial institutions, landlords, and lawyers, for example, can use a passport verification check as part of their KYC checks. This is a vital tool in verifying the identity document your clients used to identify themselves.
When employing new staff, a passport validation check will help you determine a person’s identity as well as their right to work. While a passport isn’t the only method of doing this if they present a fake, doctored, lost or stolen passport, then they very likely don’t have the right to work or they might be using a fake identity.
